Use the powerful dual vacuum power of this versatile tool to grip an installed plank, then tap the handle with a rubber hammer. Continue tapping until the gap in the flooring closes.
Repeat this process with all gapped planks in the floor, working from one side of the floor to the other. Here again, closely matching the color of the floor is the key to success with this method. Small scratches can be rendered almost invisible with the appropriate shade of markers, wax pencils, or even crayons.
A laminate floor repair kit that includes specialty markers can also be purchased. For larger, deeper scratches or dents purchase a laminate repair compound kit. When renovating their floors, more and more homeowners are starting to choose laminate floors over other materials like tile or hardwood.

Learn the materials and equipment required, and see our step-by-step guide for installation. Before you can start your laminate floor installation, you must first gather your materials and equipment. To ensure that your floors are secure and will last long-term, you must use the proper procedures, which starts with having the right tools.
You can purchase or rent the equipment needed for this project from your local hardware store. You must also, of course, select and order your flooring products.
Many flooring manufacturers have design specialists who can walk you through selecting the best design and amount of materials for your space. Last, to remain safe while completing your project, make sure to wear safety equipment like goggles, gloves, and knee pads. Subtract this from your total measurement. This may not be an exact number, so you will most likely have to cut the planks to fit the last row, also leaving room for expansion on that side.
There may be instructions on how to cut your materials included in your flooring kit. A fine-tooth blade is more efficient at reducing splintering. You can also place duct tape on top of the cutting surface to protect the planks and prevent splintering. Cut with the finished side up. While beginner and intermediate DIY-ers can complete this project successfully, laminate flooring installation requires accurate measurements and proper technique. All project expenses materials, equipment and labor and cleaning fees.
When negotiating with a flooring installer in Vancouver you need to show them that you can pay for their services upfront with cash or another form of payment that is acceptable to both parties.
Laminate floors in Vancouver floors installations made easy by doing your research ahead of time and having a clear understanding of the installation process. I decided to remove the barn wood from around the island and cut it to allow the floor to run under those pieces.
Next up was also painting the plywood black to better conceal the imperfections of the re-purposed wood. A confession here is that I was terrified that the floor would not match up from one end of the island to the next. To my relief, when I came back down the back side of the island everything matched up perfectly…and that NEVER happens for me! As a side note, I was told that this might be the place to START the project for this very reason, but it all worked out.
I had already decided that there would be no molding around the island, so that required more precision with cuts and placement; another good reason to let the barn wood come down on top of the flooring. Guess what? Another bow! Back to Marty: Whew! My husband did an amazing job installing our laminate flooring. Tim is a planner and made sure he thought through as much of the process as he could beforehand and watched the installation video for helpful tips.
What do you think? Laminate flooring is so much more affordable than hardwoods so would you try this DIY project yourself?
Marty Walden believes anyone can create an authentic home filled with simple, thrifty decor. Your floors look great!
Hats off to your husband and helper for a great job! We used a cheaper product that I am not real happy with. When we did our bedroom last year we bought better quality and I like it a lot. In our kitchen we used vinyl planking, which I love. We will definitely be using that when we get to the bathrooms.
Thanks so much, Pam. The great thing about these floors is they are top quality AND are affordable, sold in Costco in Canada. Good luck with the bathrooms! We have one more to tackle as well. Hi Marty, The floors look great! Congrats on a fabulous makeover. If the product is only available in Canada, do they ship to the US homeowner? Thanks for sharing! So happy for you! The kitchen looks great! Susie from The Chelsea Project.
